It all started at 4th and State! Bob Nelson opened the "Docksider" and it became a great hangout for those who loved being "hip" and were afficianado's of great music. The bar then moved to a larger location at 10th & State. Bob then sold the bar and got out of the business for some time.
Bob is now back as the owner of Nelson's just up the street from his old establishment. What a thrill to walk in and see all the old gang hanging out and even working there. For those that want to smoke, Bob thought ahead and has a room just for your habit. Whoever is cooking in Bob's kitchen needs a five star approval rating! I haven't found an item on the menu that I've been dissatisfied with. Nelson's is indeed the Cheers of downtown Erie!

What a great place! I say "place" because it is hard to call it a bar! It has a very nice, relaxing atmosphere with excellent food! Not like the bar food you will get in other places! The pub pizza was excellent! Crab cakes were to-die-for!!! Mussels were amazing!!! What more can I say!! Every night they have drink specials, although some don't start until later at night and I am usually there for happy hour-so I miss some of the specials! I can't wait until they are open for lunch! I hear that it is coming soon!!!

Nelson's is just what Erie has been looking for! The atmosphere is classy and laid back at the same time. There's a separate smoking bar enclosed on one side which has it's own bartender on the weekends. This is great for somkers who don't want to stand in the cold and also for diners who don't want a smoky atmosphere while dining. The food is amazing!! It's not your typical "bar food", it's more upscale-fine dining food in a laid back place. They have items such as duck confit, crab cakes, perogies, burgers, salads, mussels, chicken pasta/sandwiches, fish n' chips, and lots more. There are also daily chef's specials. There is a drink special everyday and they also have a very nice wine selection. All in all, it is a great place that all different age groups and types of people can and will enjoy! it's Erie's new HOT SPOT and isn't going anywhere soon.....
